I’m always so impressed when ever I see the corsetry work from the students of De Montfort Univeristy, on the invitation only couture corset design degree. I came across some beautifully designed corsets at last years London Graduate Fashion Week and have followed some of the students since. With links with leading lingerie publication, Lingerie Buyer, the students showcase their work at various trade shows such as the Harrogate Lingerie show and I’ve just recently found out that some the courses creations were featured in DJ Ironics ‘Tiny Dancer’ video. Take a look at these gorgeous designs.

I read in the New York Times this week, well online as Im actually sat in the cold, north of England wishing I was actually in NYC, about live painting sessions taking place in the Slipper Room in Manhattan with a twist. The live painting sessions take place in an old burlesque with burlesque dancers as the live models. I know, as a keen live drawer, that when your model can move into the weirdest positions, it makes the drawing come to life.
I’ve added some of the drawings produced by Molly Crabapple. You can listen to an audio comentry of the artist on the NY TImes website, where she talks about her inspiration and background as a burlesque artist.
I thought I’d add these super cute 40’s pinup girlie postcards. I love this kind of imagery and I love anything vintage so I’m thinking abot getting these images blown up and framed for my bedroom. What do you think?
I just came across these vintage covers from Eyeful magazine, the american magazine from the 50’s that ‘glorified American women’ or so it said on the cover. Created by pin up artisit Peter Driben, these front covers should be framed and put all over my bedroom. Tres’ sexy, also love how the caption at the bottom celebrates these ‘corset cuties’, let me be one please! 🙂 x
This years Burlesque Festival extravaganza was held in some of London’s most glamorous hotspots, hosting events at Cafe De Paris, Scalar Nightclub and Madame JoJo’s. Although these events were held back in April I wanted to let all you ladies know that LBF 2010 is changing! And it’s changing to be even more spectacular, nurturing new talent and welcoming familiar faces such as Dita Von Teese and rising star Siren Stiletto. Burlesque is still somewhat of an underground movement I feel and 2010 is set to bring the beauty of it to the mainstream, taking inspiration from London Fashion Week by holding a week long event rightly named London Burlesque Week. Application forms are available from the 1st November so get your pens ready and remember if you don’t perform still go along as support your art!
