Last Friday the glitterati of Burlesque came together for the Annual Burlesque Awards 2010 at Café De Paris, in London’s Leicester Square. The opening, by host and ringmaster, Armitage Shanks, bellowed across the crowd: Tonight, we’re gonna make love to you individually and collectively. You’re gonna want an adult but you’re not gonna get one. It’s an evening of inventory and it’s only gonna get stranger from there,”
The fabulously dressed crowd were treated to a variety of tantalising and titillating burlesque acts from across Europe – the UK, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Cardiff – by way of Paris.
The eager front row was sprayed by a magnum of champagne by the gorgeous Banbury Cross, dressed as screen siren, Marylin Monroe. Oh, how I would have loved to have been there. Maybe next year guys and dolls.
Later on Captain Anchor sang, Start Spreading your legs, to the tune of Sinatra’s New York, New York and Catherine Delish cast off her outfit while mouthing along to the words of Judy Garland’s hit songs, Get Happy – at one point whisking a US flag out of her corset.
Our home grown girls did well out of the night. Pixie Frisk won Best New London Act and the evening was rounded off with a triumphant roar when Ginger Blush, also from London, was announced as winner of Best Solo UK performance this year. A big well done all round.
NYE is usually a night of let downs, it’s always such a big event with high hopes then one thing can go wrong and it ruins the start of a fresh new year. I’ve decided this year is going to be different. I’m having a fabulous NYE house party with cocktails and a guest list of handsome men.
I have my outfit sorted but the one thing I am missing is something to keep me warm as I travel from the outhouse (where the supply of mulled wine will be kept) back to the toasty house (where the supply of tasty men will be kept).
So I decided on this gorgeous black satin bolero, to cover up my top half and I enter the cold. At a fantastic £25, I’ll get wear after wear from it and it looks stylish over a corset or over a little lace top. NYE Fabulous!

I was looking at different ideas for my yearly Christmas party with the girls and I came across Time for Tease, a burlesque group that perform a host of different routines, ranging from Santa Baby to dancing Snow Flake.
Time For Tease puts on events that combine a delightful afternoon tea with a dollop of burlesque cabaret in one scrumptious package.
Zoe Fletcher and her team of waitresses and burlesque artistes embarked on this flight of fancy in June 2006 with the very first Afternoon Tease! at Volupté and since then things have gone a little crazy – but they’re loving every minute!
Time For Tease has held a few events in Brighton, hosted private parties in peoples front rooms and even brought afternoon tea & burlesque to a field in the Isle Of Wight for the crowds at Bestival.
Last year Time For Tease entertained Queen’s Roger Taylor at an Alice in Wonderland themed party in the Café Royal’s prestigious Grill Room. They also delighted Kate Moss at her 34th birthday party with glam rock themed cupcakes and a burlesque fan dance.
Combining my love for cupcakes and burlesque, what more could a girl want for Xmas!
As the first decade of the year draws closer Ive been thinking about any new years resolutions that I should make. Every year it’s the same old cliche to get fit, stop smoking (which now has been cut down to social smoking, which with the smoking ban in place is practically non-smoking all together) and to do more spontanious things.
The latter is one I intend to do this coming year, but with the boring old recession, it’s going to have to be something economically viable for my poor purse strings.
So, I’ve decided that all though I love the odd burlesque strip tease, I’m going to take full blown pole dancing lessons. Not to get ten pound notes stuffed in my knickers, all though that would be pretty fab right now, no, it’s to get all toned up in a fun, sexy way. I’ll let you know next year if I actually manage to take this resolution on!
