VENUS SPORTS CAN-CAN CORSET

Tennis ace, Venus Williams, was snapped sporting a can-can style corset yesterday at the French Open Tennis Tournament at Roland Garros in Paris. Both Venus and Serena Williams are known for their unique sense of dressing through their matches and this outfit is nothing new to the sports star. The red spaghetti straps and corset dress has a feel of the 1890’s, with the skirt ruffled at the bottom to make a certain ‘flounce’ when Venus moved.
The press seemed to love the outfit with the first 8 questions at the post match press conference being about the outfit. The star said: “The motif is really about sporty sexy, and kind of that whole attitude of bringing that to my game, I usually don’t wear red. This is kind of new for me.”
Venus said she plans to wear the dress for her next match as well. If it continues to bring victories, who knows … maybe she’ll get one in white for Wimbledon.

REDUCED PRICE CORSETS

I love nothing better than a sale and my favourite burlesque based website, www.truecorset.co.uk, has reduced some of their gorgeous over the bust corsets in price.
My favourite pink corset, which I’ve had my eye on for ages, has been reduced to £47.00, due to marks on the bust hooks, which lets face it, can be easily remedied by a quick trip to dry cleaner. Other corsets in the sale are this Ivory Ella Over the Bust Corset, in sizes UK 24-36″, UK 22-34″ and UK 22-23″. These are all reduced due to small marks on the inside of the corsets, which when worn can not be seen. Price around £45, reduced from over £80, you can’t argue a small mark is worth missing out on one of these gorgeous steel boned curve creators.

CORSETS FOR CATS?

Jean Paul Gaultier once created a corset for his cat.

The designer – whose collections are famed for their boned waists – wanted to make a bespoke item for his beloved feline but soon realised it wasn’t a good idea. He said: “Do you know that cats can’t wear corsets? They can’t stand! Not at all – they just fall over. I know because I tried!”.

Another irk Gaultier wanted to air to Stella magazine was about modern day celebrities who don’t want to pay for his designs. He said: “I am not a businessman. When I first started out Hollywood stars came and tried on the dresses and had many fittings. Now they except the dresses for free. I hear some designers even pay for them to wear their clothes. It is hopeless.”

The 57-year-old Frenchman believes he owes a lot of his success to using ‘real’ women in his catwalk shows as other females can relate to them.

He said “The fashion press could not understand it. But I say, ‘Why not?’ It is what inspires me. I don’t like to be safe. I use what I see. There is no point in me sitting here in my couture house and not knowing what is going on out there. You have to be aware of what is going on in the street.”

MET GALA 2010 – THE FROCKS AND THE FUN

Monday night saw the glitterati migrate to New York for the annual Metropolitan Costume Gala hosted by Vogue Editor, Anna Wintour and television star Oprah Winfrey. The night saw some of the most glamorous and stylish frocks to walk the red carpet and I’ve chosen some of my favourite gowns with of course the added bonus of the curve enhancing corset. First up see’s Twilight actress, Kristen Stewart in a figure hugging black Chanel dress, which I first mistook for Vivienne Westwood with the pointed neckline. I think this gown would have worked a little better if it was completely floor length, taking off the unnessesary netting.

Next up comes the stunning Jennifer Lopez, who by the way is over 40! Can you believe it? Jennifer looks radiant in this heavily embellished Zuhair Murad gown. I like to see Jen a little more glam and less ghetto.

Lastly we come to the curvasious Eva Mendes who looks fabulous in her Dolce and Gabbana floral dress, looking every bit the Spanish senorita. See how the fish tale, corset nipped in waist design of the dress highlights Eva’s fantastic figure? The black floral print works well with Eva’s latino skin colouring.

DE MONTFORT COUTURE CREATIONS

I’m always so impressed when ever I see the corsetry work from the students of De Montfort Univeristy, on the invitation only couture corset design degree. I came across some beautifully designed corsets at last years London Graduate Fashion Week and have followed some of the students since. With links with leading lingerie publication, Lingerie Buyer, the students showcase their work at various trade shows such as the Harrogate Lingerie show and I’ve just recently found out that some the courses creations were featured in DJ Ironics ‘Tiny Dancer’ video. Take a look at these gorgeous designs.

COACHELLA MUSIC FESTIVAL

Here are two of my favourite corset wearing ladies in deep conversation at Coachella Music festival. Katy Perry and Dita Von Teese have actually been out a number of time, oh how fun it would be to be involved in that party circuit! I’m loving Dita’s directional hat by Phillip Treacey and sun dress, a striking contrast against Katy’s super modern, colourful ensemble. I love Katy’s sunglasses, how cool are they. Earlier on in the festival Dita was snapped wearing some larger than life sailor trousers. Although her corset style bra top looks great these trousers are a definate no-no in the style stakes. Dita, you look like Santa at sea! Please find some skinny, indigo jeans to wear with that top and high light your curves instead of drowning them.

CHRISTIAN DIORS 2010 CORSET

How gorgeous does actress Mia Wasikowska look in this Christian Dior polka dot mesh and satin corset from the 2010 catwalk collection? This over the bust corset captures the ladylike, ultra feminine trend that is so present right now. The trend for underwear as outerwear has been spotted all over the high street with lace camisoles worn with jeans and flashes of brightly coloured bras are a big trend for night wear. I think this type of corset should be teamed with a fifties style full skirt and towering heels to capture that womanly trend. If your looking for an equivilant of this polka dot corset then why not try this Dita corset in black with white spots. Christian Dior eat your stylish heart out!
